12/74 to 1/75: Modified for Operation Streak Eagle. It weighed 1800 pounds less than the production F-15A.
Aircraft was unpainted except the name “Streak Eagle” on both sides of the nose.
Jan 16, 1975 to Feb 1, 1975 Set 8 world time-to-height records as part of *Operation Streak Eagle* -
In setting the last of the eight records, it reached an altitude of 98,425 feet just 3 minutes, 27.8 seconds from
brake release at takeoff and coasted to nearly 103,000 feet before descending.
It was flown in its natural metal finish to reduce weight for the record-setting flights.
These Operation Streak Eagle flights took place from Grand Forks AFB, ND.
Note: Because Streak Eagle was a very early production airplane, its internal structure
was weaker than the final production F-15A standard. It was considered too expensive to modify it to the new standard.
This plane is on display at WPAFB Museum. Reported in 2005 to be in storage
					at the museum.

1447 (MSN E2-77) 492nd Tactical Fighter Squadron, 48th Tactical Fighter Wing, RAF Lakenheath, Suffolk.
Crashed June 23, 1982 on hillside at Strathcanon Forest near Porin, Scotland. The fighter-bomber
was on a practice attack to the bombing range at Tain, north of Inverness, Scotland using the Terrain
Following Radar to maintain an altitude of 1,000ft above ground. When the pilot selected 500ft to
drop down at the start of the bombing run. the aircraft pitched violently and rolled to the right.
It didn’t respond to the pilot’s attempt to regain control and with the aircraft nearly inverted close
to the ground, the crew ejected and the escape module separated from the aircraft. The imprint of
a castellated nut was found on the horizontal stabiliser actuator servo valve, causing the unwanted
control input. Crew ejected and survived. The crew escape module was mounted on wheels as a
training aid and offered for sale at RAF Molesworth, England in 1995. Purchased and restored by

Oestricher. During high-speed ground tests at Edwards, Oestricher had
inadvertently scraped the tailplane on the runway as the nose was
